June 9th, 2024, marked World Accreditation Day, a global initiative to highlight the value of accreditation. The Inform USA Accreditation program debuted in 1999, making this year its 25th anniversary!
The profession of information and referral (I&R) ensures that people get connected to the right help and Inform USA is the professional membership association for I&R providers. Inform USA establishes the industry standards for information and referral, with input from subject matter experts from across the sector. Inform USA accreditation is a stamp of approval that an I&R has met the industry’s Standards for quality.
Nearly 130 organizations across North America hold an Inform USA accreditation. All types of I&R providers have achieved this honor, ranging from 211’s, aging and disability organizations, crisis-line centers such as 988, and specialized information and referral providers. The accreditation process consists of a call review phase, a review of the resource database, a community survey, a consultative review, and a virtual site visit.
The benefits of accreditation apply to the organization and the people in need who seek assistance. In today’s changing world, our human service systems must be accountable for providing high-quality services.
